Watched Date Night late last night.  It was silly, mindless fun, the operative word being “fun”.  Probably wouldn’t be able to tell you the story a day from now, but tired, late at night, it wasn’t bad.  I love Tina Fey, and wish she’d ad-lib’d a lot more.  Not a movie for much after thought and conversation, but we were entertained for a while.  Now I’ll send it back to Netflix (after a month or so), and go to a new plan.  Will not abide their double charging.

If you have young children or grands, this is fun.  I’m still waiting……

Power is back on.  Missed you yesterday.  I must say LIPA hires idiots.  I called yesterday morning to get an estimation of when power would come back.  The woman told me it would be several days since a tree came down on wires in my area and they called in extra help for the job.  I told her we have no overhead wires, and asked where the tree was.  She got all huffy, and a bit nasty.  Refused to answer.  Guess the joke was on her, since a few hours later the power was back on.  I’m hoping my curried cauliflower soup is still good.  My half & half held up, and coffee abounds.  This wasn’t nearly as bad as It could have been, and I actually wonder why the power was out at all.  I’d just written to my email group that it was raining steadily, but not hard, and the trees were slightly swaying, but not very windy, and 5  minutes later, the power went.  Seems odd, no?  Hey, I lived through Gloria.  This was a snap.

Is it too soon to complain  that I hate being stuck in the house all day?  Probably.  Therefore, I’ll wait.

Yesterday was my first experience with quinoa.  I’m still having trouble saying it right, but treated it as a rice pilaf, and it seemed to work.   When Hubby got home from work, I sautéed leftover rotisserie chicken curt into strips, in olive oil, seasoned with Cajun seasoning & soy sauce, and added onions and yellow peppers.  I didn’t taste it, but Hubby thought it was great over the quinoa.  Healthier than brown rice or whole wheat pasta.

How about that Irene?  Holding us hostage till she decides where she wants to land.  My daughter got us our annual Long Island Ducks tickets for Hubby’s birthday, and we were supposed to go Saturday night.  Doubt that will happen, and that’s sad.  I’m inland, so my big worry is losing power.  We were out for 11 Days afterGloria (9/25/86).

Oh, recently discovered that Costco’s own paper towels are just as thick and thirsty as my long time companion Bounty, and several dollars less expensive.  No pick-a-size though.

Gotta use this one fast.  Expires on Sunday.

I’m not crazy about the name, but this is a nice little grill cookbook to download.

Weberwants to help us ladies become master’s of the barbecue. They are offering you a free guide featuring everything you need to know about grilling on your barbecue.

Buzz & Freebies

OKay, Hubby goes back to work today.  After 3 months at home, this is a whole lifestyle change.  No more going shopping weekdays to avoid the crowds, Nobody else to feed the birds, so I have to be a good mommy.  Basically, I’m a prisoner in the house again, but, for about 9 hours a day, it’s all mine!  I really look forward to Winter and Spring holidays, when Hubby gets a week off, but 3 months straight is overkill.  Eventually, I’ll have to adjust.  He can’t work forever, but so far, so good.  I did get up early and make him sandwiches and made him a nice juice with our new juicer (3 kinds of grapes, srawberries, spinach, carrot and plum).  I’m not really as selfish as I sound, am I?

Happy Birthday Hubby!  You’re 65 (a grownup?) today!  Since today is a long one for him, we went out to dinner last night.  Nothing extravagant, TGIFridays.  He loves their burgers, and loves burgers above all else.  He had the Southwestern one.  I ordered the Dragonfire Chicken int he package with appetizer and dessert, so we shared potstickers, and vanilla bean cheesecake, along with singing.  I’ll have most of my dinner for lunch today.

I  got mine yesterday, but they’re still available.  Nothing like a free steak, right?  I’d get there ASAP.

Spent most of yesterday sleeping, and the better half of today too, but now I’m feeling much better, and finally eating.  Nothing of interest to tell you though.  Wish I could remember dreams.

I’ve never used a recipe for salsa, but this one got rave reviews.  (I added the cilantro)  I think I’ll try it.

  • 6 medium tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped green pepper
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup thinly sliced green onions
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 2 teaspoons cider vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons Olive Oil
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons minced jalapeno pepper
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Tortilla chips
In a large bowl, combine the tomatoes, green pepper, onions, garlic, vinegar, lemon juice, oil, cilantro, jalapeno and seasonings. Cover and refrigerate until serving. Serve with chips. Yield: 5 cups.
Coldwater Creek has a cute jacket reduced from $90 to $17.  Free s&h with code WZH9251 .  Regular sizes to 10 and petites to 12.
This is a good deal for Chili’s.  We love their margaritas, and they usually have dinner specials, like 2 entrees and either an appetizer or a dessert for $20.  $10 for a $20 gift card.
